“ Island Fest has been a nice addition to the High Point food scene. It's great to have something beyond BBQ and chicken eateries. When you first walk in you head to the counter to place your order. The staff was thin so the service did take a bit but the food is worth the wait. Also, the staff is VERY helpful and friendly too. Located in what was once the old Emerywood Fine Food/Lonestar Burger location, the ambiance is laid back and enjoyable. Open every day until 7pm, expect being closed on Sunday. The owner, who took our order, when she heard it was our first visit, she suggested we have a chicken patty as well as a beef patty. We weren't sure what to expect. When they arrived looking like a hand pie, we were ready to dig in. Spiced wonderfully, flaky crust and cooked to perfection, walk don't run and order your own patties! When our meals arrived, we were ready to dig in. Everything was spiced well for our entrees too. The dishes were plastic to go containers so don't expect something beyond that. Like I mentioned, LAID BACK! Prices range from $1.79 up to $27.00. ”

“ The long awaited visit to Island Fest, THE Jamaican restaurant in High Point, is over and I'm pleased to share this review with the foodies like myself and food review readers. I visited on Saturday Oct 5 around 5pm. First, the location was easy to find and you can't miss it with the rebranded cow out front. The restaurant was super clean and well organized with kiosks for you to place your order which reduces the time waiting for someone to physically take your order. However there was a wonderful, cheery woman who was happy assist if you needed help. Now on to the food, I must say I judge Jamaican restaurants based on how well they make curry goat and oxtails. On this day, I ordered a small curry goat, with rice/ peas, and it comes with cabbage and sweet plantains to-go. The small container was packed. This was absolutely the most tender, flavorful curry goat I've ever had from a restaurant. This was the kind of meal you get from the kitchen of a real Jamaican grandma or auntie! I also had to try the beef patty which is my 'go-to' appetizer every time and for the first time I tried a jerk chicken patty. Honestly,I can't tell you which one is my favorite they were both so awesome and delicious; great meat filling and warm flaky crust. You can't go wrong. To round out the meal, I ordered a fresh, homemade juice, Pineapple/ Ginger. I was amazed once again, certainly someone freshly grated that ginger it was a nice accompaniment to my meal. It was a great first visit and it certainly won't be my last! I can't wait to work my way through the entire menu. High Point has another winning restaurant amongst the gem of other wonderful restaurants in the area! ”

“ 3.5 stars. Clean and nice location with friendly, attentive staff. You order at a kiosk but they come help you. I was not fond of the plastic single use containers. Food was also not what I expected. I've had Jamaican shrimp curry before and it had a sauce. This did not. I ordered a side of curry gravy and it was not really gravy -- more like a thin curry broth. The plantains were sweet and delicious - my favorite part of the meal. My husband's jerk chicken tasted more like a tangy bbq chicken rather than the jerk chicken I've had in the past. He loved his blueberry lemonade. I would try it again, but based on this visit, I prefer Da Reggae Cafe in Greensboro. Good addition to the High Point restaurant scene! ”

“ I need a little more food, outside of that I ordered the curry chicken it came with rice and beans and coleslaw, I order a pineapple and ginger which came in a 32 oz I'm still sipping on it right now. I will be back to try the jerk chicken and the ox tail. Curry chicken had a ton of flavor. The chicken was tender and fell off the bone. ”

“ Went a few days ago. So happy to now have Jamaican food in High Point. I got the brown stew chicken and the curry shrimp. Let me start by saying when I walked in the place was very clean, super nice atmosphere. I like that they have a computer screen that shows the menu and what is available and not available. The people were really nice and accommodating when I told them about my mac and cheese missing. The pineapple ginger juice was so good. The food was really good. Cabbage was cooked perfectly, meat was really tender and delicious and rice was great. Mac and cheese was not all that good but everything else was worth the money. ”

“ I work in HP I have been trying get to Island Fest for awhile. I called my order in Jerk Chicken Rice & Peas, Cabbage. And jerk chicken patties, I arrived my order was ready in a timely manner. Folks were ordering via digital tablet. The ambience was nice.. The establishment was clean. The food was good the jerk chicken just right spicy. Rice & peas flavorful. The cabbage was ok lacked flavor but. I mixed it with the sauce. Now let me tell you those patties,omg fresh handmade Freeform. My jerk chicken patties were delish. “ While the Khrissy's Kitchen truck makes its rounds at Brown Truck fairly regularly, High Point was without a Jamaican restaurant until Island Fest recently opened its doors. It's a welcome addition, and while it has room to grow and improve, there's reason enough to be hopeful. Housed in the former Lone Star Burger (they kept the cow out front and adorned it with a Jamaican flag), Island Fest is geared toward takeout and quick service. Dining in is an option, and the folks here seem friendly, but you're coming for the food, not the ambiance. Speaking of the food, the offerings here aren't as extensive as they are at Da Reggae Café, but if you have a Jamaican craving, you'll likely find something that can satisfy it. Entrees range from jerks and curries to fried fish to brown stew beef, quick bites include various patties and coco bread, and sides cover the requisite rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains as well as mac and cheese. They were out of curry shrimp when I placed my order, so I went with fried red snapper in its stead along with jerk chicken, a beef patty, and coco bread. The entrees are available in smaller and larger sizes and include rice and plantains. My wife and I were hoping to get several meals out of our order and did so for under $50. While Island Fest's early reviews complained about portion sizes, the larger-sized entrees left no room for complaint on that end. The food was a bit uneven, but there were more bright spots than disappointments. Thankfully, Island Fest does not tone itself down for mass appeal: the beef patty and jerk chicken brought a welcome bit of heat. The snapper was nicely breaded and paired well with a peppery barbecue sauce. Speaking of sauces, Island Fest lets you pick a gravy for your rice. We got to try both the curry and the oxtail gravies, and both were delicious. While the rice was a top-tier side, the cabbage and coco bread were forgettable, and the sweet plantains weren't particularly sweet. Island Fest's early offerings are promising, and more may be on the horizon. As-is, this probably isn't the best Jamaican food you've had, but the entrees and sauces can hold their own. ”
